An Introduction to Northampton Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats gained control of Northampton Borough Council for the first time in May 2007, winning 26 seats. The Northampton local party covers the two constituencies of Northampton North and Northampton South which includes all of the area covered by Northampton Borough Council as well as the villages of Roade, Denton, Milton Malsor, Collingtree, Quinton, Rothersthorpe, Ashton, Brafield on the Green, Whiston, Kislingbury, Piddington, Hartwell, Litlle Houghton, Great Houghton, Hackleton, Cogenhoe, Harpole and Yardley Hastings.

Organisation

The party is organised on two levels with an Executive Committee elected to manage the activity across the town together with local council ward branches in some areas.

The local party is represented at regional level with elected representatives to East Midlands Liberal Democrats and at national level with 6 conference representatives who are elected each year.

Local Councillors

The Liberal Democrats have 26 Councillors elected to Northampton Borough Council, making it the party of administration. The Liberal Democrats have 8 Councillors elected to Northamptonshire County Council. Northampton South constituency includes part of South Northants District Council where the party has 1 Councillor at present.
